When you start chasing collection rewards in MLB The Show 26, it helps to keep an eye on MLB The Show 26 stubs early, because one bad buy can mess up the whole grind. The Legends and Flashbacks side of the game is where that really shows up. Some cards come easy, sure, but plenty are tied to packs, programs, or wild market prices, and that mix can turn a simple collection into a proper headache.

Why the Legends and Flashbacks path feels so heavy
The big thing here is that these sets are not built for quick wins. You are usually dealing with a split between market cards and non-market cards, and that split matters more than people first think. If a card is locked behind a program, you need time. If it is on the market, you need stubs, and sometimes a lot of them. That is why players keep checking what counts, what does not, and which pieces can be skipped without wrecking the reward line.
The 2026 All-Star snapshot is a good example. It shows 48 total cards, with progress sitting at 43 out of 48. That means the set is nearly there, but not quite. And even at that stage, the price range is still rough. The low-end completion estimate lands at 543,217 stubs, while the higher end jumps to 1,082,488. That gap is huge, and it tells you straight away that timing the market can save a ton.

The main pieces players watch first
1. 48 total cards.
2. 43 cards shown.
3. 543,217 stub floor.
4. 1,082,488 stub ceiling.
Reality check: most players are not missing one card; they are missing the expensive one, and that is where the pain starts.

Milestones that actually matter
The reward ladder is pretty clean, and that helps. At 15 cards, you get Mason Miller. At 25, Cam Schlittler comes in. At 35, Bobby Witt Jr. is the prize. Then at 43, the set gives up 99 Yordan Alvarez. That last one is the big marker, because it is a top reward without needing every single card in the full set. So yeah, you can stop before perfection and still walk away with something nasty.

15Mason Miller97

35Bobby Witt Jr98

Where the real stub damage comes from
Some of the pricier cards are way out there. Jacob Misiorowski and Shohei Ohtani are both listed at 1,000,000 stubs, while Mike Trout sits at 900,000. Byron Buxton and Aaron Judge are cheaper, but not exactly pocket change either. Cards like that shape the whole market conversation, because one or two premium names can push the completion cost into silly territory fast.

What people keep asking in chat
Someone in my group asked if waiting for a flash sale would make this set way easier.
Yeah, maybe, but only if the sale is real. Right now, there is no confirmed timing to bank on.

How the card sources shape your grind
That mix of sources is what makes the set annoying and kind of fun at the same time. Byron Buxton came from a Chase 18 Pack. Jacob Misiorowski was tied to a Weekend Classic 4 Choice Pack. Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani were both in the 5th Inning Boss Pack, while Aaron Judge came through the 5th Inning XP Path. Then you have program cards like Juan Soto and Nick Kurtz, which means you cannot just swipe stubs and call it done.

Why the market still gets the last laugh
Even when a card is technically available, supply can be thin and price swings can be messy. That is why some cards show buy pressure while others lean toward sell pressure. If you rush, you pay more. If you wait too long, the card may jump again. It is a bit of a mess, honestly. Still, if you play it smart and keep watching the collection board, the path gets clearer, and cheap MLB The Show 26 stubs can make the whole thing a lot less brutal when the market starts acting up.
